ACTIVITIES
Action Rhyme: Dance Your Fingers (via Kings County Library System)
Dance your fingers up
Dance your fingers down
Dance your finger to the side
Dance your fingers all around
Dance your fingers on your tummy
Dance your finger on your head
Dance your fingers on your shoulders
Now put them all to bed
Action Rhyme: Popcorn (via Perry Public Library)
Popcorn, popcorn
Sitting in the pot
Shake it, shake it (wiggle body)
Pop! Pop! Pop! (jump up or clap hands loudly)
Flannelboard: Ice Cream Colors (via Storytime Katie)
We have ice cream, the best in town,
Let us begin with chocolate brown.
Now, let us scoop us some bubble-gum pink,
It is sweet and yummy, the best, some think.
Here is ice cream minty and green,
It is the creamiest I have ever seen.
Yellow ice cream is lemony and tart,
We like its taste from the very start.
Scoops of blueberry would make my day,
Look at all this ice cream, hip, hip hurray!
Red ice cream is a strawberry delight,
All these scoops are an amazing sight.
Vanilla white is a popular flavor,
It tastes very good to an ice-cream craver.
Purple ice cream really gives me a kick,
Good and yummy till the very last lick.
Ice cream, ice cream, what a cool sensation,
We love ice cream in any combination!
Flannelboard: Sam’s Sandwich by David Pelham
Action Rhyme: Apple Tree (via Jbrary)
Way up high in the apple tree (reach up high)
Two little apples smiled at me! (make circles with thumb and fingers)
I shook that tree as hard as I could (pretend to shake tree)
I shook that tree as hard as I could (pretend to shake tree)
Down came the apples (bring hands down)
Mmmmmm, they were good! (take a bite & rub tummy)
Action Rhyme: P-I-Z-Z-A (via Less Ordinary Librarian)
I know a food that starts with P
and pizza is its name-o
P-I-Z-Z-A, P-I-Z-Z-A, P-I-Z-Z-A
And pizza is its name-o
CRAFT: Hot Dogs!

I found an adorable hot dog craft on Pinterest, and decided to replicate it for this week’s storytime craft. I had my interns prep the craft using vanilla and brown colored card stock. Red and yellow yarn was used to represent ketchup and mustard (I made my version using paper). Parents and children alike got a real kick out of this craft.
REVIEW:
This was a fun and interactive storytime session. The munchkins were really excited to participate in the extension activities and the parents thought the giant pizza activity (via Less Ordinary Librarian) was adorable. Sam’s Sandwich got a lots of shrieks and really hopped the kids up (I recommend purchasing a copy of this book via a used bookseller in order to be able to perform the story as a felt activity)…as did Snack Time for Confetti and How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food.
