Dr. Seuss EXTRAVAGANZA!

Dr Seuss NEA Read Across America

My library held a family friendly Dr. Seuss themed event in honor of Dr. Seuss’ 110th birthday and NEA (National Education Association) Read Across America Day. A donation from the local Kiwanis Club was used to purchase more than one hundred, discounted Dr. Seuss books. Each child who attended the event received a free Dr. Seuss book of their choosing, as a means of closing the book gap and promoting phonological awareness and vocabulary at home. Activities and games included Pin the Mustache on the Lorax, Cat in the Hat Bowling, Feed the Things Bean Bag Toss, Dr. Seuss Bingo, and a Dr. Seuss themed storytime. Overall, the event was a huge success with nearly 200 guests in attendance, most of whom enjoyed our tasty cupcakes. I was not able to take photos, so PPT mock-ups of some of the activity stations  (created during the planning stage) are available above.
