CRAFT: Monsters!

Monster Craft 2

Coming up with a craft for this week’s storytime was frustrating and time consuming. I wasted a lot of time coming up with templates, and prototypes (one of which is pictured above)…none of which I liked. By the time storytime rolled around, I was out of time and options. As a last resort, I was forced to use monster-themed coloring sheets (I found one for free online). Stickers were provided as a means of spicing up the otherwise dull coloring sheets.

REVIEW:

This week’s storytime was sort of a mixed bag. Its pretty obvious I was not thrilled with the final craft, or any of the preceding prototypes…so I was a bit irked going into this week’s storytime session. I was optimistic about the read-a-loud books. Unfortunately, Monster Cake did not go over as well as I expected (probably due to vocabulary i.e. regional/ethnic foods my predominately Hispanic preschoolers are unfamiliar with at this early age such as fondue or sauerkraut). At least the other two read-a-loud stories, and most of the extension activities were more successful. Meh.
