CRAFT: Letter “Uu” Umbrella!

Drawing a unicorn shaped letter “U” seemed like more trouble than it was worth, so I decided to go with an umbrella shaped letter “U.” My simplified version was based on an adorable, construction paper prototype I discovered on the Totally Tots Blog. I really wanted to spice up the craft by adding raindrops, but I did not want to add them via PPT or go to the trouble of cutting up sheets of blue card stock into raindrop shaped pieces. Fortunately, I came up with a half way decent alternative. While rummaging through the dollar bins at my local Super Target, I came across packages of rainbow colored happy face stickers…which I used as “rainbow colored raindrops.” My plain example is shown with card stock, but sans stickers. Crayons and colored pencils were provided along with stickers.
REVIEW:
The preschoolers were somewhat restless during these back-to-back storytime sessions. Ugh! A Bug and The Underwear Book were big hits, and the latter earned some giggles. The extension activities went over well, and my munchkins demanded we perform Here We Go three times. The craft was successful, and the children were especially excited by the rainbow colored stickers. Luckily, no-one seemed to mind the fact the raindrops were “special” and unusually shaped and colored. =)
