ACTIVITIES
Rhyme: A Kiss (via Lynn Goldberg & The GSLIS/ISRL listserv)
There’s something in my pocket,
Could it be a moose?
Could it be a train with a bell and a caboose?
Could it be a snake or some sticky glue?
Right here in my pocket is a KISS from me to you!
(blow a kiss to the audience)
Rhyme: Gertie the Goldfish (via SurLaLune Storytime)
Gertie the Goldfish goes
smack, smack, smack
She looks at me and goes like
smack, smack, smack,
She doesn’t laugh, doesn’t sing
doesn’t do anything
Just blows big kisses like this
Smack, smack, smack, smack
Rhyme: I Can Hug (via SurLaLune Storytime)
I can hug, hug, hug,
I can hop, hop, hop,
I can kiss, kiss kiss,
I can stop, stop, stop.
I can nod my head yes,
And I can shake my head no,
And I can sit down very low.

CRAFT: XOXO Flower!

This simple craft was inspired by the book, Plant a Kiss, I decided to have the kids create heart-shaped, hugs and kisses flowers. I used PowerPoint to create the heart-shaped flower, and printed multiple copies which were cut out prior to storytime. The stems were fashioned out of left over green scrapbook cardstock. Crayons and markers were provided.
REVIEW:
I did not want to repeat the Valentine’s Day themed storytime I had presented at GBL the previous Saturday (especially due to the paste heavy craft). So I decided to go with a related Hugs & Kisses theme…which I performed for 20 preschoolers at GBL2. This was a very successful storytime. The kids enjoyed the read-a-loud books, and had fun constructing and coloring their flowers. More than one child told me they would be gifting their flower’s to parents.
